A study published by UT Health San Antonio in early 2025 found that “pairing medication-assisted therapy with app-based contingency management reduced opioid use by 35% and extended treatment retention by 19%.” That’s not just a statistic it’s evidence that the right mix of medical care and behavioral support saves lives.

At the same time, the CDC reported that overdose deaths in the U.S. dropped nearly 27% in 2024 compared to the previous year. It was one of the sharpest single-year declines on record a rare piece of hopeful news after years of heartbreaking headlines.

These findings point to something we already know: when care is comprehensive and families are supported, recovery becomes more than a possibility. It becomes reality.

Who We Are

We’re G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, based in Austin, Texas. Our work is rooted in a simple but powerful mission: to walk alongside individuals and families as they navigate the pain of addiction and the hope of recovery.

Our founders, Matt and Hannah Gibson, carry this mission in their bones. Both are in long-term recovery themselves. Hannah began her journey after years of struggling with alcoholism, finally committing to treatment following an intervention in 2013. Matt fought severe addiction through his 20s, experiencing homelessness before finding recovery in 2017.

Because they’ve lived it, they know what it means to feel broken and what it takes to build a life back up. That’s why G3 exists not to offer quick fixes, but to stand beside people and families as they put the pieces together.

What We Do

Our work starts with interventions. Matt is certified in the ARISE® intervention model, which is designed to be invitational rather than confrontational. The goal isn’t just to get someone into treatment it’s to preserve dignity, reduce shame, and open the door to lasting change.

But an intervention is just the beginning. We provide family consulting, coaching relatives through the often-confusing process of supporting a loved one without enabling destructive behavior. We help families set healthy boundaries, rebuild trust, and find healing for themselves too.

We also offer recovery coaching for individuals, providing accountability, relapse-prevention strategies, and support for daily life. For those who need a safe place to land, we operate sober living homes in Austin, offering structure, community, and accountability rooted in 12-step principles. Random drug testing, curfews, house meetings, and chores create a stable environment where people can focus on what matters most staying sober and building a future.

And when logistics or fear become barriers, we step in with sober transport services, making sure individuals get safely to treatment or recovery housing. Sometimes, the difference between relapse and recovery is simply someone showing up to get you where you need to go.

Why It Matters

The UT Health study reminds us that layered support medical, behavioral, relational works. And the CDC’s overdose data reminds us that progress is possible, but fragile.

That’s why we do what we do. Addiction doesn’t just affect one person; it ripples through families, workplaces, and communities. Without intervention and continuity of care, people fall through the cracks. But when families are equipped, when coaching and community support are in place, the chances of long-term recovery rise dramatically.

Stories of Impact

We’ve seen people enter treatment within days of an intervention after years of resistance. We’ve seen siblings reconcile, parents and children begin speaking again, and families find a way back to each other after years of silence.

Our sober living residents tell us they feel more stable and more connected than ever before. Families who once felt hopeless discover not just relief, but a renewed sense of strength.

As Matt often says, “Addiction thrives in isolation. Recovery thrives in connection.”

Looking Ahead

The recent drop in overdose deaths is encouraging, but every lost life is a reminder of the work still ahead. Recovery requires ongoing effort, compassion, and structure and that’s where we step in.

At G3 Recovery, we believe no one should walk this road alone. Not the person struggling, and not the family standing beside them. If you’re facing addiction in your home, you don’t have to wait for rock bottom. There’s hope now. There’s a way forward.

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, don’t wait for rock bottom. At G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, we’re here to walk with you from intervention to family healing to long-term recovery. Reach out today and take the first step toward hope, connection, and lasting change.

A recent report from the Partnership to End Addiction highlights a concerning trend: “Overdose deaths increased slightly for the first time in over a year, which could be just a blip or a sign that the rapid declines could be fading” . This uptick underscores the persistent challenges in combating the addiction crisis, emphasizing the need for effective intervention and support systems.

Meanwhile, an observational study of nearly 2,000 residents in Virginia-certified recovery residences revealed:

“Retention for 6–18 months is essential to establish and maintain positive discharge outcomes,” particularly among people with recent criminal justice system involvement.

These data underscore a consistent truth: sustained engagement in a structured recovery environment dramatically improves outcomes.

Introducing G3 Recovery Intervention and Consulting

We at G3 Recovery Intervention and Consulting, operating here in Virginia, are deeply aligned with this emerging evidence. At our core, our mission is to empower individuals and families struggling with substance use or behavioral health crises through empathetic, structured, and professional interventionist‑led support.

We help guide families and clients into treatment and recovery housing placements that support longer stays and better outcomes.

From Our Team: Warm, Purpose-Driven Voices

Matt Gibson, Co‑founder, shares:

“Our work isn’t just about getting someone into treatment it’s about helping them stay long enough to rebuild. We believe recovery becomes possible when care is infused with purpose and compassion.”

Hannah Gibson, Co‑founder, adds:

“We’ve witnessed the hurdles justice‑involved clients face stigma, gaps in service, isolation. That’s why we focus on building trust, coordinating with certified recovery residences, and advocating for extended stays.”

What Makes G3 Unique in Virginia

ARISE® Invitational Interventions
As certified professional interventionists, we facilitate ARISE sessions designed to mobilize clients toward treatment often within the first week. These gatherings pivot on clear communication, family engagement, and immediate placement planning.

Family Consulting & Emotional Coaching
We offer ongoing guidance to families helping them navigate emotions, set healthy boundaries, and support long-term engagement with empathy and insight.

Sober Transport Services
When a client moves into a recovery facility, we provide discreet, respectful transport to reduce stress and ensure safe arrival especially vital for families in rural or underserved parts of the Commonwealth.

Recovery Coaching & Continuity Support
Post‑placement, we stay engaged with clients, providing coaching to help them adapt, build their recovery capital, and avoid early exits or relapse.

Our local expertise includes carefully crafted interventions for methamphetamine and cocaine use disorders, tailored to the realities of substance trends in Virginia Beach and surrounding regions.

Impact That Aligns with the Research

The systematic review’s findings that longer-term recovery housing correlates with better outcomes mirror our experience. Clients who engage with us typically do well in recovery residences, staying in the 6–18 month window that the Virginia study calls essential. These durations vastly improve chances of completing the program with positive discharge outcomes.

Because of our hands-on support and coordination, our clients are more likely to achieve sustained engagement, greater stability, and eventually independent recovery progression.

Returning to the Research: G3’s Role in the Solution

That 2025 Frontiers review and the Virginia observational study make it clear recovery housing works best when supports are sustained. For many justice‑impacted Virginians, longer engagement isn’t just helpful it’s necessary for true transformation.

We believe our work bridges that critical gap. As professional interventionists, we help remove barriers to access, create entry paths into certified residences, and support stays long enough to make recovery sustainable.

An Invitation: Begin Together

If you’re facing the pain of substance misuse especially if justice involvement or short stays in recovery housing have been obstacles reach out to us at G3 Recovery Intervention and Consulting. We offer more than just encouragement; we offer a structured, compassionate path forward grounded in emerging science and personal connection.

Together, we can build a recovery journey that lasts long enough to matter. Recovery isn’t a moment it’s a process and we’re here to walk that process with you.

Don’t wait for things to get worse.
Whether you’re a concerned family member, a healthcare provider, or someone ready to take the first brave step, we’re here to walk beside you from intervention to long-term recovery.

These numbers aren’t just statistics to us they represent real families, real heartbreak, and the fragile hope that recovery brings.

Who We Are: G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting

At G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, based in Austin, Texas, we meet families in some of their most difficult moments. Founded by Matt and Hannah Gibson both of us in long-term recovery ourselves we’ve built our mission around one belief: healing doesn’t happen in isolation.

We know the wreckage addiction leaves behind. We’ve lived it. And we’ve dedicated our lives to walking with individuals and families as they rebuild connection, accountability, and trust.

Our Voices

Matt often reflects:

“Since getting sober, God has blessed me with a life better than anything I could’ve dreamed of… Before recovery, I was homeless, hopeless, and exhausted. Through the 12 steps, I’ve turned my dark past into a story of hope.”

And Hannah adds:

“Recovery isn’t just about the individual it’s about the family as a whole. We hold hands together.”

These aren’t just words. They’re the foundation of how we work with empathy, transparency, and an unwavering belief in what’s possible.

Our Holistic Model

We’ve designed our services to create lasting change, not quick fixes:

Intervention & Family ConsultingWe lead respectful, family-inclusive interventions that focus on healing relationships, rebuilding communication, and setting a new path forward.

Recovery Coaching & Case Management
We stay engaged long after the initial intervention, offering personalized coaching and ongoing support to help clients stay grounded in recovery.

Structured Sober Living
Our gender-specific homes in Austin provide a safe, accountable environment, grounded in a 12-Step framework with curfews, testing, meetings, and mentorship from our leadership team.

Sober Transport Services
We offer compassionate, reliable transportation to treatment when the logistics and emotions of crisis feel overwhelming.

In our most recent review, we saw over 60% of clients enter treatment within their first week and success rates of up to 96% within six months a striking contrast to the relapse variability seen in the broader recovery landscape.

Why This Matters

Relapse isn’t failure it’s a sign that someone needs deeper connection, structure, and support. Research and our own lived experience tell us the same story: without long-term engagement, family involvement, and personalized case management, recovery remains precarious.

That’s why our model goes beyond stopping substance use. It’s about rebuilding identity, restoring relationships, and sustaining healing for the long haul.

Bringing Hope Back Home

The issue is urgent: relapse rates remain alarmingly high, and entire families bear the weight. We’re here to change that. By weaving together interventions, coaching, sober living, and family involvement, we transform good intentions into real, sustained recovery.

If your family is struggling with relapse or feeling disconnected after treatment, we want you to know:

You’re not alone and you don’t have to do this alone. Recovery is a family journey, and we’re here to walk it with you, every step of the way.

We’ve seen the difference this makes 85% of families in our programs stay engaged in coaching for six months or more, and many tell us their greatest relief comes from restored trust and open communication.

Why This Matters

Again. This time, it’s not your daughter it’s the police. Or maybe it’s been three days since you’ve heard from your son, and you’re checking hospital emergency rooms. If you’re reading this, chances are you know exactly what we’re talking about.

The statistics say that about 17.1 percent of Americans aged 12 or older struggle with substance use disorders that’s roughly 48.5 million people. But statistics don’t capture the sleepless nights, the missed family dinners, the graduations celebrated without them, the way you hold your breath every time your phone buzzes.

Here’s what keeps families going: 75% of people who get treatment for addiction do recover. The tricky part? Getting there. For most families, convincing someone they love to accept help feels like trying to solve a puzzle with half the pieces missing.

That’s where we come in. We’re G3 Recovery Interventions and Consulting, tucked away in Austin but serving families across Texas. We get it really get it because we’ve seen addiction tear families apart and watched those same families piece themselves back together, stronger than before.

“We’re not the intervention police,” we tell families all the time. “We’re not showing up to shame anyone into treatment. We’re showing up because we believe every family deserves a shot at getting their person back.”

When Everything You’ve Tried Hasn’t Worked

You’ve probably been here: sitting around the kitchen table at midnight, googling “how to help an addict who doesn’t want help.” Maybe you’ve tried tough love. Maybe you’ve tried enabling. Maybe you’ve cut them off completely, then welcomed them back with open arms.

“Every family that calls us has already tried everything they can think of,” we tell people. “They’ve read the books, joined the support groups, had the conversations. They’re exhausted, they’re heartbroken, and they’re running out of ideas.”

Sound familiar? Here’s the thing and this might be hard to hear loving someone isn’t the same as knowing how to help them. Addiction rewires the brain in ways that make normal family dynamics completely useless. The same conversations that worked when your kid was 16 and came home past curfew? They don’t work when your kid is 26 and shooting heroin.

That’s where we step in with what we call “radical compassion.” It’s not about ambushing anyone or delivering ultimatums. It’s about creating space for honest conversations the kind where someone can admit they’re scared, they’re tired, and they don’t know how to stop.

“We’re not trying to trick anyone into treatment,” we explain to families. “We’re trying to help you have the conversation you’ve been needing to have for years, but didn’t know how.”

It’s Not Just About Getting to Treatment

Here’s something most people don’t realize: getting someone to agree to treatment is actually the easy part. The hard part is what happens after when they come home from rehab, when they’re trying to rebuild their life, when your family is trying to figure out how to be normal again.

We get this. Our track record is solid 85% of our interventions result in the person entering treatment. But here’s the stat that really matters: 78% of families report that their relationships are actually better six months later. Not just “back to normal,” but better.

“Anyone can muscle someone into a treatment center,” we tell families. “But if the family doesn’t heal, if everybody doesn’t learn new ways of being together, you’re just setting the stage for the next crisis.”

So we don’t just do interventions and walk away. We stick around for the messy, complicated work of family recovery:

Professional Interventions: Think less “surprise attack,” more “carefully planned conversation where everyone gets to say what they need to say.”

Family Recovery Coaching: Because navigating insurance, treatment options, and family dynamics while your heart is breaking is basically impossible without help.

Therapeutic Consultation: We work with your existing therapists and doctors to make sure everyone’s on the same page.

Recovery Planning: We help families prepare for what life looks like when their person comes home from treatment.

Relapse Prevention Support: We teach families how to support recovery without enabling, how to love without fixing.

What makes our work particularly effective is that we know Texas. We know which treatment centers actually follow through on their promises. We know which sober living houses are safe and which ones you should avoid. We understand how insurance works (or doesn’t work) and have relationships with facilities from Houston to Dallas.

“We’re not just handing you a Google search,” we tell families. “We’re saying, ‘Here’s exactly where to go, here’s who to call, here’s what to expect, and here’s how we’re going to help you get there.’”

The Whole Family Gets Sick

Here’s something that might surprise you: addiction doesn’t just happen to the person using. It happens to everyone who loves them.

Picture this: When someone in your family is deep in addiction, everyone else’s life gets turned upside down. Dad starts working crazy hours because home feels like a war zone. Mom can’t focus at work because she’s constantly checking her phone. The 16-year-old starts failing classes because who has time for algebra when your sister might be overdosing?

We don’t just help the person using drugs or alcohol we help the entire family understand how addiction has changed all of them. Families who work with us often discover that recovery isn’t just about one person getting sober. It’s about everyone learning to live differently, to love differently, to hope differently.

“We learned that we’d all been playing roles in this disease without even knowing it,” one parent shared with us. “Not that it was our fault, but that we’d all developed these patterns that weren’t helping anyone.”

Why the Numbers Actually Matter

Statistics can feel cold when you’re dealing with something this personal. But here’s why they matter: they tell us that what feels impossible actually isn’t.

From July 2023 to July 2024, overdose deaths in the U.S. dropped by 17 percent. That’s not perfect, but it’s progress. It’s 19,000 families who didn’t get the worst phone call of their lives. It’s 19,000 people who got a second chance.

But here’s the flip side: 94,000 families still did get that call. And most of them probably never knew that professional intervention was even an option.

“Every family that calls us has already been through hell,” we tell people. “They’ve tried everything they know how to try. They’re often at the point where they’re planning funerals instead of interventions. Our job is to help them see that there’s still hope, that there’s still time, that recovery is possible.”

The research backs this up in ways that might surprise you. In 2019, less than 9% of young people who met the criteria for substance use disorders actually got treatment. Even fewer 7.2% got treatment at a real addiction facility. The gap between needing help and getting it is enormous.

That’s where services like ours become crucial. We’re not just helping individual families we’re helping close that gap between crisis and care.

Austin Gets It

There’s something about Austin that makes this work particularly well. Maybe it’s the “Keep Austin Weird” mentality that makes people more open to having difficult conversations. Maybe it’s the tech industry bringing in evidence-based approaches to everything. Maybe it’s just that Texas families don’t give up easy.

“Austin families are smart, they’re connected, they’ve got resources,” we observe. “But addiction doesn’t care about your zip code or your college degree. We work with families from Westlake Hills dealing with their teenager’s fentanyl problem, and we work with families from East Austin whose grandmother got hooked on prescription painkillers. Addiction really is the great equalizer.”

The city’s culture of innovation and openness creates space for honest conversations about mental health and addiction that might be harder to have in other places. And that matters when you’re trying to get families to talk about things they’ve been avoiding for years.

What Recovery Actually Looks Like

If you walked into our offices, you probably wouldn’t expect to see what’s there: a wall covered with photos. Not stock photos or professional headshots, but real pictures from real families. Birthday parties. Graduations. Weddings. Holiday dinners where everyone’s actually there.

“We don’t just want to stop the crisis,” we explain to families. “We want to help you build something better than what you had before the addiction started. We want to help you discover what’s possible when drugs and alcohol aren’t running the show.”

That’s not just feel-good talk. We actively partner with organizations across Austin from the Austin Recovery Community Organization to various faith communities to make sure families have ongoing support long after the initial crisis passes.

The Next Phone Call Could Change Everything

Remember those 48.5 million Americans struggling with addiction? They’re not just numbers in a report. They’re someone’s kid, someone’s parent, someone’s sibling. They’re people who used to have dreams, who still have dreams, who deserve families that know how to love them through recovery.

“Every day we wait, addiction gets stronger,” we remind families. “But every day we act every intervention, every family meeting, every tough conversation recovery gets stronger too.”

If you’re reading this and thinking about someone you love who’s struggling, here’s what we want you to know: you’re not alone, you’re not out of options, and it’s not too late. Professional intervention isn’t about giving up on trying to handle it yourself it’s about getting the help you need to love them better.

For families across Texas watching addiction steal someone they love, we offer something that might seem impossible right now: a way home. Not just for the person using drugs or alcohol, but for the entire family learning to live, love, and hope again.

Because that’s what recovery looks like not just one person getting clean, but a whole family getting their life back. And that’s worth fighting for.

For more information about our services, or to speak with someone about intervention support, families can reach out to G3 Recovery Interventions and Consulting through our Austin-based practice.

Over 316 million people globally used drugs in 2023, up from 5.2% of the adult population to 6% in just ten years.

Cocaine production rose 34% last year to a record 3,708 tons*, with use growing steadily worldwide.*

And the synthetic drug trade especially methamphetamine and fentanyl analogs is expanding faster than public health systems can respond.

(Source: UNODC World Drug Report 2025)

But beyond the data lies the human toll. Here in the U.S. and in the homes we step into across Austin and beyond we see it every day. Addiction is touching more families, and it’s doing so in ways that are more complex, more dangerous, and more isolating than ever before.

At G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, we’re not watching this crisis from the sidelines. We’re in the trenches with families every single day. And we want to share something vital that we’ve learned: even as the problem grows globally, healing still starts locally one conversation, one intervention, one family at a time.

A Crisis Without Borders But With Personal Consequences

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of the issue. When we hear that drug markets are expanding in war zones, in regions destabilized by poverty, in neighborhoods flooded with synthetic opioids we might assume this is a problem “out there.”

But the truth is, these global dynamics are shaping what’s happening right here across Texas, across the U.S., and inside our clients’ homes.

We’re seeing:

More families losing loved ones to fentanyl-laced substances they never knew they were taking.

More parents calling us because their adult child relapsed after losing a job, a partner, or a sense of purpose.

More young people turning to stimulants and synthetics to cope with anxiety, burnout, and unprocessed trauma.

When global stress rises, substance use often follows. As the UNODC notes, global instability and insecurity are now directly fueling drug use and organized crime. But here’s the hopeful part: every ripple effect of crisis can be met with a ripple of care and that’s exactly what we aim to provide.

Our Approach: Compassion-Fueled, Family-Centered

At G3, we don’t believe in shaming people into change. We believe in meeting people where they are and helping them (and their families) find a way forward. Our services are designed to interrupt the spiral of addiction with care, clarity, and connection.

Here’s What That Looks Like:

Professional InterventionsWe facilitate structured, non-confrontational interventions designed not to coerce, but to invite change. Every plan is customized to the individual and the family dynamic.

Treatment Placement
We don’t just hand you a list of facilities. We work side-by-side with families to identify the right level of care, from detox to inpatient to outpatient support. We know the difference between surviving treatment and actually engaging in recovery.

Sober Transport & Case Management
From the moment someone says “yes” to help, we manage the logistics and emotions of getting them there safely. Whether it’s flying with them across the country or coordinating medical clearances, we take care of the hard parts.

Family Coaching & Aftercare
Recovery doesn’t stop at admission. We stay involved with families teaching communication skills, boundary setting, and ways to support long-term sobriety without falling into enabling patterns.

Sober Living in Austin
We offer structured, community-based sober living homes designed for growth, accountability, and connection. This is often a crucial step after inpatient care, helping clients reintegrate with support.

What We’re Seeing And What Gives Us Hope

Yes, the numbers are daunting. And yes, the world feels uncertain. But here’s what gives us hope:

We’ve helped hundreds of families move from crisis to stability.

Over 90% of our interventions result in treatment placement within a week.

Our long-term involvement leads to stronger family outcomes and higher retention in recovery.

People do heal. Families do reconnect. Cycles can be broken.

We believe the antidote to a global crisis is a local, compassionate response and that’s what we’ve committed our lives to.

Our Message to Families: Don’t Wait for Rock Bottom

Too often, families reach out after an overdose, a DUI, a hospitalization. But intervention doesn’t require disaster. Intervention means stepping in before the next emergency. Before another night of silence. Before the damage feels irreversible.

As the UNODC report shows, the forces behind addiction are massive trauma, instability, despair. But when families are supported, when interventions are done with care, and when recovery is treated as a journey not a destination lives change.

In Closing: Hope Isn’t Lost

We can’t control the global drug trade. We can’t undo the instability driving so much of this crisis. But we can control how we show up for our loved ones. We can choose compassion over fear. Clarity over chaos. Connection over silence.

At G3 Recovery Interventions, we’re here to help you do exactly that.

If someone in your life is struggling with addiction, don’t wait. Reach out. Ask for help. We’ll walk with you through the uncertainty, through the fear, and into something better.

Because even in the face of global crisis, recovery begins with one family choosing hope.

This communication breakdown isn’t just a statistic it’s a quiet crisis unfolding in living rooms across the country.

Enter G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, a family-centered intervention and recovery support group based in Austin, Texas. Led by Matt and Hannah Gibson both in long-term recovery themselves G3’s mission is rooted in lived experience and empathy.

“We understand what it’s like to witness a loved one struggle with addiction. We’ve been through the same fears, uncertainties, and struggle and we found a solution,” says Matt.

Hannah adds, “Addiction doesn’t just impact the individual; it shatters families, rewrites childhoods, and echoes across generations.”

How G3 Is Changing the Game

Family-Centered Consulting

G3 teaches families how to support recovery without enabling or burning out. They guide parents, siblings, and spouses in reshaping their roles from reactive to restorative.

Sober Transport & Recovery Coaching

Whether it’s escorting a loved one to treatment or supporting them through the transition back into everyday life, G3 stays engaged and accountable.

Sober Living in Austin

G3 also operates safe, structured sober living homes with 12-step integration offering residents both community and consistency.

And the results speak volumes:
Over 60% of clients enter treatment within the first week, and 96% of families report substantial progress within six months.

Why This Work Matters Now More Than Ever

Consider again what the SAMHSA study showed: families don’t know how to help, and people in crisis feel isolated. G3 steps into that emotional gap with tools, compassion, and experience.

“Every family speaks a different language,” Matt says. “We’re here to translate that into healing.”

Their model doesn’t just stop the cycle of addiction it rewrites it.

A Call to Hope and to Action

In a country where one in four children lives with a parent affected by substance use disorder, G3’s work is critical. Our approach is rooted in family systems, lived experience, and structured support, gives families a way forward together.

If your home is filled with silence, fear, or confusion around addiction, you’re not alone and you don’t have to figure it out alone either.

Reach out to G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting
Start the conversation. Because when families learn how to talk again, recovery becomes a shared journey.

Founded in Austin, G3 Recovery is a consulting and recovery housing organization that offers high-accountability sober living, personalized interventions, and family support services. At its core, G3 believes recovery isn’t just about getting clean it’s about rebuilding a life that feels worth living.

Co-founder Matt shares, “We don’t just ask clients to stay sober we walk with them as they find meaning, connection, and direction again.”

His partner and co-founder Hannah adds, “This work isn’t about fixing people. It’s about seeing the whole person and helping them reclaim their story.”

What Makes G3 Different? A Whole-Person Approach to Recovery

While many programs focus solely on clinical detox or inpatient treatment, G3 picks up where those programs leave off with services designed to sustain and deepen recovery.

Gender-Specific, Luxury Sober Living Homes

G3 offers thoughtfully designed sober living spaces in Austin, tailored separately for men and women. These aren’t just safe places to crash they’re healing environments, complete with:

Morning structure and recovery-focused routines

In-house peer mentoring

12-step meetings, life skills coaching, and career planning

Trauma-informed community values

Residents are expected to participate, engage, and support one another. “There’s a kind of quiet magic that happens when people hold each other accountable and celebrate each other’s wins,” says Matt.

Strategic Interventions & Consulting

Whether it’s a family in crisis or an employer trying to support a struggling team member, G3 steps in with custom intervention plans, coaching, and guidance. These services often include:

Pre-intervention family education

Structured interventions facilitated by licensed professionals

Case management and treatment placement

Post-intervention care plans and accountability follow-ups

G3 also partners with local hospitals and emergency services to help transition individuals into stable recovery environments after overdoses or mental health crises.

Measurable Outcomes and Real Lives Changed

Though recovery is deeply personal, G3 does track impact. Their internal data shows:

80% of residents maintain sobriety beyond 6 months

2x the national average in residents securing work, education, or volunteer roles within 90 days

High rates of family reunification and restored relationships

Clients describe the experience as life-changing. “They saw me before I saw myself,” one former resident shares. “Now I’m not just clean I’m proud of who I’m becoming.”

A Bigger Picture: Why Long-Term Support Matters Now

As Travis County’s temporary public health funding winds down, concerns grow that people in early recovery will again fall through the cracks. Harm reduction tools like naloxone save lives but what happens after the overdose?

That’s where G3 steps in.

They’re not just keeping people alive they’re helping them thrive. Through sober housing, professional guidance, and community integration, G3 is building what Austin’s health leaders are calling for: systems that prevent relapse, restore hope, and rebuild lives.

And they’re doing it without waiting on another grant.

Final Word: Hope That Doesn’t Expire

In a moment when the national conversation around substance use is shifting from shame to solutions, from crisis to connection G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting stands as a model of what recovery can look like when it’s rooted in compassion, structure, and real human relationships.

So if you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, don’t wait for the system to catch up. Reach out to the people who already get it.

In a recent CDC report, the scope of America’s substance use crisis came into sharper focus: Over 112,000 overdose deaths occurred in the U.S. during the 12-month period ending in May 2024. Synthetic opioids primarily fentanyl were involved in nearly 70% of those deaths.

What’s more troubling is that many of these individuals had families parents, siblings, partners who watched helplessly as their loved ones slipped further into addiction.

But for some families, that downward spiral was interrupted because they reached out for help. And they found it in a team based in Austin, Texas.

Who They Are: A Heart-Led Mission Rooted in Experience

G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting is a nationally recognized intervention and family support service founded by Hannah and Matt, two professionals who have made it their life’s mission to walk families through the darkest moments with empathy, expertise, and unwavering presence.

“Families come to us when nothing else has worked,” says Hannah*. “They’re scared, tired, and don’t know what to do next. We step in with a clear, structured plan and most importantly, with heart.”*

With backgrounds in mental health, crisis intervention, and addiction recovery, Hannah and Matt don’t just lead the company they guide each case personally. Their team has helped hundreds of families find peace, even in the most chaotic moments.

A Different Kind of Intervention

Contrary to what reality TV might suggest, an intervention doesn’t need to be a dramatic confrontation. At G3 Recovery, it’s about compassionate preparation, family unity, and strategic timing.

“We don’t just show up and surprise someone with a room full of people,” explains Matt*. “We carefully assess the situation, prepare each family member emotionally, and design an approach that honors everyone involved including the person struggling.”*

Their process typically involves:

One-on-one coaching with each family member

Clinical assessment and treatment matching

In-person or virtual interventions

Full coordination of travel and treatment logistics

Ongoing family support throughout the recovery journey

And it works: over 85% of individuals agree to treatment when interventions are conducted using their method.

Beyond Addiction: A Holistic Support System

G3 Recovery isn’t just for substance use. The company also works with families facing:

Mental health disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, and PTSD

Behavioral crises, including self-harm and suicidal ideation

Dual diagnoses, where addiction and mental illness overlap

Complex family dynamics, including estrangement, codependency, or enabling patterns

They specialize in navigating high-stakes, high-emotion scenarios where timing and sensitivity are everything. Their deep network of vetted treatment centers across the U.S. allows them to match clients with programs that suit their exact needs clinically, culturally, and financially.

“There’s no one-size-fits-all solution,” says Hannah. “We take time to understand the entire picture before recommending a path forward.”

Supporting Families Every Step of the Way

Another hallmark of G3 Recovery is their commitment to the family even after a loved one enters treatment.

The team offers family consulting, recovery coaching, and check-ins long after the intervention itself. They know that recovery is a marathon, not a sprint, and that healing the family system is just as important as treating the individual.

Many families who work with them report stronger relationships, healthier communication, and a newfound sense of hope even if their loved one takes time to stabilize.

“Sometimes the biggest transformation happens in the family first,” says Matt. “That’s where real, lasting recovery begins.”

A Light in the Darkness

As the overdose crisis continues to devastate communities, services like Professional Interventions are proving that intervention is not about confrontation it’s about connection.

For every parent afraid to make the call, every sibling feeling powerless, every spouse wondering if it’s too late Hannah and Matt want you to know: You are not alone. And it’s not too late.

“We’ve seen miracles,” says Hannah. “And it often starts with one brave step.”

A New Study Sheds Light on Parental Addiction And G3 Recovery Is Stepping In

A June 2 JAMA Pediatrics report reveals a troubling reality: “Nearly 19 million children in America, or one in four, were raised with a parent with a substance use disorder.” Among them, 7.6 million lived with a parent suffering moderate to severe SUD and another 3.4 million with multiple dependencies.

Meanwhile, a January 2025 UT Health San Antonio study offers a proactive insight: pairing medication-assisted therapy with app-based contingency management reduced opioid use by 35% and extended treatment retention by 19%.

These findings highlight two harsh truths: addiction often starts at home and consistent support tools can turn the tide.

G3 Recovery: Breaking Cycles and Building Bridges

With G3 Recovery Interventions & Consulting, an Austin-based team led by Matt and Hannah Gibson. Their heartfelt, family-centered approach is more than just interventions it’s a mission to heal entire family systems.

Matt and Hannah themselves have journeyed through addiction. Matt into homelessness and Hannah through years of alcoholism and now they channel that lived wisdom into real change.

“We understand what it’s like to witness a loved one struggle with addiction,” Matt shares. “We’ve been through the same fears, uncertainties, and struggle, and we found a solution.”

Hannah adds, “Addiction doesn’t just impact the individual; it shatters families, rewrites childhoods, and echoes across generations. We successfully help families reclaim their narrative…”

What Sets G3 Apart

1. ARISE® Invitational Interventions

Their signature intervention method encourages entry into treatment with an impressive 60% of clients entering treatment within a week and a remarkable 96% success rate within six months.

2. Family Consulting

G3 doesn’t stop at the individual they pull families together. Through guidance, education, and communication coaching, they rebuild trust and repair fractured relationships.

3. Sober Transports

Their sober living homes in Austin provide structured, 12‑Step immersive environments underpinned by clear daily routines and accountability.
Following trends showing that consistent behavioral reinforcement (like contingency management) aids recovery, G3 embeds structure, positive reinforcement, and education into every step mirroring techniques validated by the UT app study.

Putting It All Together

The JAMA Pediatrics study stares us in the face: millions of children are growing up in homes damaged by substance use. At the same time, data shows that layers of support from technology to family systems can meaningfully improve outcomes.

G3’s work is positioned directly at this intersection:

They address where addiction begins within families.

They embed consistent support systems proven beneficial by research.

They demonstrate that structured, compassionate intervention works, achieving industry-leading treatment engagement and family restoration.

Parents, partners, siblings no family should feel isolated. If you’re grappling with addiction’s ripple effects, G3 Recovery offers more than services they offer understanding, connection, and a path to reclaim hope.

As the scale of parental addiction comes into sharper focus, G3 stands as both a response and a promise: when families rise, communities heal.

Reach out. Reconnect. Restore. G3 Recovery is here to walk the journey with you.

When addiction takes hold of a loved one’s life, knowing where to turn can be overwhelming. Do you contact a therapist? Do you hire an interventionist? What’s the difference, and which is more effective for your situation?

If you're navigating this difficult path in Texas or elsewhere, understanding the roles of an interventionist vs. therapist can make all the difference in getting your loved one the help they truly need. In this post, we’ll break down the differences, benefits, and when to call each professional—so you can take action with confidence.

What Is the Difference Between an Interventionist and a Therapist?

While both interventionists and therapists play critical roles in addiction recovery, they serve very different purposes, especially at different stages of the journey.

Interventionist: Guiding the First Step Toward Treatment

A professional interventionist specializes in helping families and loved ones motivate someone struggling with addiction to accept help—often through a structured event known as an intervention.

Key responsibilities of an interventionist include:

Planning and facilitating the intervention process

Coaching family members on effective communication

Coordinating treatment admissions immediately following the intervention

Providing support through high-emotion situations

Therapist: Supporting Ongoing Mental Health and Recovery

A therapist, on the other hand, offers ongoing mental health treatment. Once the individual has agreed to seek help, therapists provide tools to manage addiction, trauma, anxiety, depression, and co-occurring disorders through:

One-on-one counseling

Group or family therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and other clinical approaches

Long-term support for relapse prevention

Who Should You Call? Understanding the Timing and Needs

The answer depends on where your loved one is in their recovery journey.

Call an Interventionist if:

Your loved one is in denial about their addiction

You’ve tried talking to them, but they refuse help

The situation feels urgent or unsafe

You need structured support to manage the emotional and logistical challenges

An interventionist is often the first line of action—particularly effective for families who feel stuck and unsure of how to proceed.

Call a Therapist if:

Your loved one is already in recovery or open to help

They’ve just completed detox or residential treatment

They’re struggling with co-occurring mental health issues

They need ongoing therapeutic support to maintain sobriety

A therapist becomes most valuable during the healing and maintenance phases of recovery.

Why It’s Effective: Research & Insights

Studies show that intervention services increase the likelihood of someone entering treatment by as much as 80–90% when performed by a trained professional. This is especially powerful for families in Texas, where access to local treatment centers and trained interventionists is growing.

Once a person enters treatment, therapeutic support plays a crucial role in preventing relapse. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), integrated behavioral therapy significantly boosts long-term recovery outcomes.

Who Benefits Most?

Both services benefit:

Families in crisis who need help communicating and setting boundaries

Individuals in denial or resistant to change

Those with dual diagnoses who need ongoing mental health support

People in rural or underserved Texas communities needing structured help

Choosing the Right Professional: What to Consider

Use the following checklist to determine who to call:

Call an Interventionist if your loved one:

Is refusing treatment

Doesn’t acknowledge the problem

Is putting themselves or others at risk

You feel emotionally overwhelmed or helpless

Call a Therapist if your loved one:

Is in treatment or just completed it

Has recognized the need for change

Needs mental health support

Is working on rebuilding relationships

Final Thoughts: Take the First Step with Confidence

Whether you’re in Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, or anywhere else in Texas, knowing the difference between an interventionist and a therapist empowers you to take the right first step toward recovery.

Sometimes, that step begins with a structured intervention. Other times, it means seeking ongoing therapy and support. Either way, you don’t have to do it alone.

What Is a Professional Intervention?

A professional intervention is a structured, compassionate process led by a trained expert who helps families and support networks guide a loved one toward accepting treatment. Unlike casual conversations or emotional pleas, interventions are planned, therapeutic, and strategically designed to promote positive outcomes.

How It Works:

Assessment: The interventionist gathers background on your loved one’s situation.

Preparation: Family members receive coaching on what to say (and not say), often writing letters to express concern.

The Intervention Meeting: In a safe, neutral setting, the interventionist facilitates the conversation, helping your loved one see the need for help.

Immediate Admission to Treatment: When successful, the loved one agrees to treatment immediately — and plans are already in place.

Emotions run high, communication breaks down, and hope often feels out of reach. That’s where a professional intervention can make all the difference.

In Dallas, TX, families and friends seeking a structured, compassionate way to guide a loved one toward addiction recovery are turning to experienced interventionists.
How It Works:

Pre-intervention planning
The interventionist meets with family and friends to understand the situation and prepare emotionally and logistically.

That’s where professional interventions in Texas come in—not to take control, but to guide families and friends toward healing. In this post, we’re breaking down exactly what an interventionist does before, during, and after an intervention—and why it matters so much for lasting recovery.

Whether you’re a concerned family member, a close friend, or someone considering help for yourself, understanding the intervention process can be the first empowering step toward change.

What Is an Interventionist?

A professional interventionist is a trained specialist who helps families confront a loved one about their addiction or mental health struggles. But interventions aren’t just about confrontation—they’re about compassion, structure, and creating a clear path toward recovery.

An interventionist helps:

Plan and coordinate the intervention

Educate families on addiction and mental health

Facilitate a safe and respectful conversation

Provide follow-up support and referrals to treatment programs

Think of them as both coach and mediator—ensuring the message is delivered with love, and that the process is both effective and ethical.

The Intervention Process: Step-by-Step

Before the Intervention

Preparation is everything. A good intervention doesn’t happen spontaneously—it’s carefully planned.

Here’s what happens beforehand:

Assessment & Consultation
The interventionist meets with the family to assess the situation, understand the loved one’s condition, and determine the best course of action.

Education & Strategy
Families are educated about addiction, mental illness, and enabling behaviors. Together, they develop a script, select participants, and set boundaries.

Logistics & Planning
The interventionist coordinates timing, location, treatment options, and even transportation—so everything is ready when the person agrees to seek help.

During the Intervention

This is the moment where everything comes together.

Facilitating Communication
The interventionist leads the meeting, ensuring the tone remains calm and focused. Each participant shares their concerns in a structured and nonjudgmental way.

Presenting Treatment Options
The individual is offered a pre-arranged treatment plan. The interventionist answers questions and addresses resistance with empathy and facts.

Encouraging Immediate Action
The goal is to get the person into treatment immediately, before fear or denial has a chance to take over.

After the Intervention

Whether the person accepts help or not, the work doesn’t end there.

Post-Intervention Support
Families receive coaching and referrals for therapy, support groups, or continued planning if another intervention is needed.

Ongoing Communication
The interventionist may check in with the treatment center and help with aftercare planning, ensuring long-term recovery support is in place.

Who Benefits from an Intervention?

Families dealing with addiction, alcoholism, or co-occurring disorders often feel helpless or fractured. Interventionists provide structure, hope, and a path forward. Those who benefit most include:

Individuals struggling with drug or alcohol addiction

Families dealing with mental health crises

Loved ones facing chronic relapse or treatment resistance

The situation can become overwhelming, emotional, and complex—especially when your loved one doesn’t recognize the need for treatment. That’s where working with a professional interventionist can be a game-changer.

In this post, we’ll explore how families can collaborate with an interventionist to support a loved one’s recovery journey, why it works, and how it can help turn hope into action—right here in Texas or wherever your family is based.

What Is an Interventionist and How Do They Help?

An interventionist is a trained professional who specializes in helping families encourage a loved one to seek treatment for substance use, mental health disorders, or other behavioral issues. They guide the process of organizing a structured, compassionate conversation—often called an intervention—to help the individual understand the impact of their behavior and accept help.

How the Process Typically Works:

Initial Consultation – The interventionist learns about the individual’s history, challenges, and family dynamics.

Family Preparation – The interventionist educates and prepares family members on how to communicate with love and clarity.

The Intervention – A carefully planned meeting is held, often with the interventionist present to guide the conversation.

Next Steps – If the individual agrees to treatment, the interventionist helps facilitate immediate admission into a recovery program.

Who Can Benefit from Working with an Interventionist?

Families across the country, including in Texas, benefit from intervention services when:

A loved one is in denial about needing help

Substance abuse, alcohol dependency, or mental health symptoms have escalated

The family feels stuck, confused, or emotionally exhausted

Prior attempts to encourage treatment have failed or been met with resistance

Working with an interventionist is especially effective because:

It provides structure in a chaotic situation

It removes blame or confrontation, focusing instead on love and concern

It opens the door to immediate treatment placement

It gives families emotional support and clarity

Addiction is a complex condition that affects not only the individual but also their loved ones. In Austin, TX, interventionists play a crucial role in bridging the gap between addiction and recovery by employing behavioral strategies rooted in psychological principles. These professionals guide individuals toward treatment and support families throughout the recovery journey.

What Is the Psychology of Addiction and How Does It Work?

The psychology of addiction examines how addictive behaviors develop and persist. It focuses on understanding the mental and emotional processes that lead to substance dependence. Interventionists leverage this knowledge to implement behavioral strategies that address the underlying psychological factors contributing to addiction. By doing so, they help individuals recognize their behaviors, develop coping mechanisms, and commit to change.

Who Can Benefit from Behavioral Interventions and Why Are They Effective?

Behavioral interventions are beneficial for individuals struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, as well as their families. These strategies are effective because they:

Address Underlying Psychological Factors: By identifying and working through emotional triggers, individuals can better understand their addiction.

Develop Coping Mechanisms: Learning new ways to handle stress and cravings reduces the likelihood of relapse.

Involve Family Support: Engaging family members creates a supportive environment that fosters recovery.

For example, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has been shown to help individuals modify harmful thought patterns associated with substance use. Additionally, contingency management offers tangible rewards for maintaining sobriety, reinforcing positive behavior.
